About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

144 Hour visa -Free transit

Hi,

I am traveling from Korea to Chengdu ( 144 hour transit ) going to stay in Chengdu for 6 days and fly to Laos but needs to transit for few hours in Shanghai (same day) to go to Laos, is that allowed?

No, unfortunately, this is not allowed and for such an itinerary you need a Chinese visa. Of course, you can retain this itinerary in case that you squeeze it within 24 hours time frame. Then, you would be eligible for 24 hours visa free transit. Anyway, I assume that your goal is to visit Chengdu, so you will obtain Chinese visa or rearrange your flights to fly directly (nonstop) to Chengdu from a country different than mainland China and after that directly (nonstop) to Laos.
