US Citizen JFK to Bangkok, through Beijing

Hi, I am planning a trip to Bangkok via Beijing in November 2019. Can I stay in Beijing for 3-4 days enroute to Bangkok and take advantage of the TWOV? I will be returning from Bangkok to the USA through Beijing, but not staying in Beijing. Please let me know, as there are conflicting information on line. Thank you.

Trust me, this is so simple. Your itinerary US - Beijing - Bangkok is perfectly eligible for 144 hours visa free transit, so you can stay 6 days there and without any kind of visa. Of course, in case that you have provided exact flight itinerary and that your flights do not have some other landings beside the points you have mentioned.

Your itinerary for your travel back to US is also fine and even in this case you would be eligible for 144 hours visa free transit if you only wish so. In case that you will just transit through Beijing on your journey to US, you will be perfectly covered by 24 hours visa free transit.
