About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

11 Hr Stopover in Guangzhou

I am an Australian citizen and arrive Guangzhou May 29 at 1010 from Rome via Wuhan and depart Guangzhou at 21 10 for Melb Australia. Can I have my luggage booked direct from Rome to Melbourne but leave the Guangzhou airport for 5 or 6 hours while in transit?

You have to ask your airline if they'll check your luggage through.

But you're able to leave the airport when the immigration gives you a temporary permit (it doesn't matter if you luggage is checked through).

Make sure you have a visa if you are in China for more than 24 hours (from scheduled arrival time in Wuhan to scheduled departure time from Guangzhou).

His transit time is just 11 hours so it's no problem.

Only the arrival time in Guangzhou was mentioned, not the arrival time in Wuhan.

Flights from Rome to Wuhan arrive early in the morning.
Just add 4 more hours and you're still fine within the 24 hours.
