Can I stay in Shanghai 144 hours either before visiting Taiwan, or after visiting Taiwan?
To whom it may concern:
I would like to visit both SH and Taipei. I have to be in Taipei June 2-7 - that is not flexible. I can be there longer if necessary, and I believe there is no visa requirement for Taiwan for Canadians.
I can either visit SH May 26 - June 1 OR June 9-15 - this is flexible.
Rule #2 states: "No. 2: The actual allowed stay length is calculated from 00:00 after the date of your entry, therefore you can maximize your stay by taking an early flight on the date of entry and a late flight on the date of exit."
Option #1:
Using the "144-hour Visa-free Transit" option, so no visa, can I arrive from Canada in SH on June 1 at 4PM local time, travel to Taipei June 2 around 9AM (its seems that is the only flight I can get on Air China based on when flights arrive into SH from Canada on June 2nd, which are all late afternoon), stay in Taipei June 2 to June 9, then come back to SH and stay there until June 15 and leave around 3PM.
A related question:
As the flight to Taipei is the transit flight, do the 9 or so hours that I would need to be at the airport hotel until the Sunday flight Count in the 144 hours?
OR
Option 2:
Do I have to spend the 144 hours in SH first, then travel to Taipei? So arrive from Canada in SH on June 2 around 4PM and stay there until June 8, and then go to Taipei?
A related question:
Do I need to go back to SH if I wind up taking Option#2? Or could I fly back to Canada directly from Taipei without coming back to SH - obviously, this would be easier.
Thank you
Mike.
