About:240-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Hi there, I am flying from Paris direct to Beijing, 5 days there and then onto Hong Kong.

I have booked these flights as separate tickets i.e one way tickets. Does this make a difference and am I still eligible for the transit visa?

Separate tickets are Ok. just make sure it's actually direct without landing in HK or another Chinese city from Paris to Beijing and you are Ok.

Your itinerary is definitely eligible for 144 hours visa free travel. Separate tickets are just fine for this convenience, just remember to have them in printed form, ready to show to relevant authorities along with your accommodation booking.
