About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is my itinerary eligible for 144 hour rule?

Just want to make sure my itinerary works. I’m planning a trip from US to Shanghai to Hong Kong. My return flight from Hong Kong has a layover in Beijing with the final destination of the US. Will I have any issues with this itinerary during any of the stops in China?

There are no issues. Your itinerary is as follows:

US - Shanghai (China) - Hong Kong
Hong Kong - Beijing (China) - US

As you can see, your itinerary is fine and you are perfectly eligible for 144 hours visa free transit in both legs of your travel, i.e. in both Shanghai and Beijing.
