Visa for Shanghai 6 days - German living in Japan

Hello,

I am an exchange student from Germany living in Japan on a one year visa. I would like to visit china (Shanghai) as a tourist from 5th May to 9th May this year.
I am wondering if I could go there without a visa and using the 144 hours transit visa for my 5 days visiting China. I would want to fly directly from Tokyo to Shanghai and stay there for 5 days. My flight back to Tokyo would also be directly from Shanghai. Is this possible without a visa application in advance?
If it is not how can I apply for a visa and how much would it cost me as German citizen to visit Shanghai 5 days?
Thank you very much for your help.

Well, you flight route is not qualified because you don't go for a third country after the visit in Shanghai. You can change your flight and have a layover in a third country before returning Japan. You don't need to apply for the 144 hrs visa-free transit in advance. Or, you just apply for a tourist visa at the CVASC in Japan. The cost for a single entry visa is about 9,000 yen.
