expired visa. we forgot to renew it before its expiration date.

is it possible that my chinese boyfriend go to jail because he forgot to report me at the local police station after i came to his place?. and now my visa is expired.

It's up to the officer's decision. What you should do at present is to report your situation to the local police station, and then pay the fine CNY500 per day; the capped amount won’t exceed CNY10,000.

Unfortunately there seems to be some sort of crackdown going on in at least some cities, so a detention may be inevitable depending on the severity of the situation. Keep in mind that, legally speaking a detention is not the same as being jailed, although the conditions are not much better.
