About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Do I need to get a 144 hour transit visa and 24 hour transit visa?

I am an American citizen traveling with my wife to Beijing and arriving on a Friday morning (around 5am) and then leaving on a cruise from Tianjin two days later on Sunday afternoon to Japan. We are then arriving back in Tianjin a week later on Sunday morning and leaving from Beijing that night to Thailand. Should we be applying for the 144 hour free transit on the first leg and the 24-Hour free transit on the second?

Exacly! On the first leg you will apply and get 144 hours visa free travel and on your second leg, it will be 24 hours option. In reality, you would be eligible for 144 hours visa free travel also on your second leg if your stay is supposed to be longer than 24 hours. So, when we know this is not the case, you will ask and get 24 hours visa free travel for your second leg. You are perfectly within the legal limits of both 144 and 24 hours visa free travel!

I think you have already asked for this situation on the forum :). In any case, you can travel with peace of mind and enjoy your time.
