About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

5 hours layover in Shenzhen Airport.

Hi. I’m a Vietnam passport holder. I’ll depart from Bangkok to Los Angeles and will layover at Shenzhen for 5 hours and absolutely won’t leave the airport. Do I need a China visa?
I tried to research and some site said Shenzhen has a 24-hour TWOV and some said not. I’m confused.
Oh and I have different airline as well. Shenzhen airline from Bangkok to Shenzen, then Air China from SZX to Los Angeles. Do I need to get out the border to claim my luggage?

Until relatively recently, transit without visa was not allowed at all at Shenzhen. That is why there is conflicting information online. You are now allowed 24 hours transit without visa at Shenzhen airport if you are not in transit to Hong Kong or Macau.

Ir is possible. Make sure you advise at the check in counter you do not have a visa
I was en-route to Camdodia on a transit through Shanzhen. I got through customs without a visa with the airline guarantee.
