Cruise arrival in Shanghai

Arriving via Princess Cruises in Shanghai.. I want to see it for 3-4 days..with
forwarding ticket to NYC, USA.
Visa Free? Less than 144 hours in Shanghai.
Query : I want also to go to Beijing to see the tourist spots there.. for a day... is it ok or no?
Is Beijing covered by the visa, even not on Yangtze delta?

You are eligible for the 144-hour visa free transit if you are a U.S. passport holder and buy the onward flight ticket with confirmed seat and date in advance. You can stay and visit Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang area with no more than 144 hours. But if you would like to across to Beijing, you need to apply for tourist visa before.
