I am Australian - how do I apply for a visa to leave Guangzhou airport

I will be leaving Guangzhou airport for approx 16 hours on the way from Sydney to Tashkent and then for another 8 hours on the way back from Bishkek to Sydney

You can apply for 24h direct transit at the airport. Go to the transit immigration line and fill out the paperwork, then an officer will give you a 24-hour entry permit, then clear customs.
