About:Beijing Travel

I am getting off a cruise ship in Hong Kong and flying to Beijing for 3 nights

And sightseeing before flying back to U.S. Is a Tourist Visa required or can I use the 144 hour Transit Visa?

Your travel route is Hong Kong - BJ - US, right? If yes, you don't need a tourist visa. You can enjoy the 144 hour visa free policy.
