About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

travelling from UK to China to Sydney

I have a 10 hour of transit time in Beijing. I am a UK Citizen. Can i go and stay in a nearby hotel or what is the best option at the airport to rest and sleep for sometime. If i go out will i have to claim all baggage before going out.
