First time in Chengdu, China...

Im traveling alone to see culture and find local foods at the end of February and don't speak Chinese. Is there a specific area that is good for hotel to stay in that is safe for a girl backpacking by herself? Recommendations for street food, eateries, night life, or an expat area?
Thank you...

Hi, you are suggested to find a hotel nearby Chunxi Road, Jinli Street or Wide & Narrow Alley. The surrounding transportation is quite convenient. And you can easily find nice restaurants. Have a nice journey!

I am here from Canada too. I have been here over one month and heading home soon. I find the metro(subway) the easiest way to get around as I do not speak Chinese either. You can change the language on the ticket machine and the stops are announced in both English and Chinese. Most taxi drivers do not speak English and I cannot read the bus signs. It is advised to keep your purse tight as there can be pickpockets. The metro can be very crowded. There are hotels everywhere and food everywhere. I point at a picture of the food I want and say "that one". I find the city very safe and nobody bothers you. The Canadian way of "after you" does not work. You have to go first otherwise everyone else will. lol.
