About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Singapore -> Shanghai -> Los Angeles

These are separate tickets and are within 67 hr from landing to Shanghai to departure from Shanghai. Can I use this 72-hour visa free to stay in Shanghai or is this only valid coming from the US and transiting through China?

Separate tickets are fine. Any countries are fine as long as they are different. You're good to go, assuming your passport is from one of the 53 eligible countries.
