About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US to Shanghia and back to USA. Visa?

Do I need to get some kind of long term visa to do a "mileage" run, where I travel to Shanghai just for a long weekend, then return home? What is the best option. I have heard that the visa fee plus the visa service will cost more than a ticket to Shanghai.

You need a visa. If you are US citizen you can get 10 year visa.

Visa or structure it so that you transiting to a third country before going back to the USA. Like USA > Shanghai > Hong Kong > Shanghai > USA.
