Do a SA and German passport holder need visa for 6 days in Shangai

We travel from SA but I am a SA passport holder and my husband a German passport holder. We want to visit Shangai in March for 6 days - we booked a tour with a German agency. What type of entry permit do we need? Can we get a transit visit if we do not visit another country?

If you fly SA - Shanghai - SA then you need a tourist visa for your stay.

If you fly SA - Shanghai - Country C then your husband can stay visa free for 6 days in Shanghai, you still need a visa.
