144 hours visa-free

Hi, Australian passport. SYD-PVG (transit SIN, no exit), then PVG-SIN. Stay in SIN a few days, then to SYD. Does 144 hours apply since country A is Australia, B is Shanghai, C is Singapore. But note that A-to-B transits in SIngapore. Please advise. Thanks!
