About:China 72-hour Visa

I am a Professor lecturing different locationsin China.

I have to fly this itinerary: from Taiwan to Nanjing to Taiwan, is it possible ? or alterantively Taiwan to Nanjing to Hong Kong, can I do that on 72 or 144 visa-free ?
If not, will it be good this itinerary: Taiwan to Nanjing to Tokyo ? thanks for answering

Taiwan to Nanjing to Hong Kong and Taiwan to Nanjing to Tokyo are both fine for applying the free transit.
