Travel to Guangzhou from Hong Kong for 2 days

Hi,
My Finance and I are travelling to Hong Kong in Feb and would like to spend 2 days in Guangzhou, do we need to apply for entry permit?

If the travel route would be Australia-Guangzhou-HK, you can get 72h twov in Guangzhou. No visa will be required.
