About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

24h twov or regular visa?

Im traveling from NYC (US Citizen) to Bangkok with an 8 1/2 hour layover in Beijing. Should I apply for a regular entry permit so that I may leave the airport or would the 24h twov cover this?

The 24h twov covers your trip. You don't need to apply for visa for that.

You have to ask the immigration for a temporary permit to leave the airport, otherwise you have to stay airside.
