About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Regular Visa Canceled

What if I couldn’t get a regular visa, but it wasn’t denied because I was the one that canceled it? Could I still use the 240 hour visa free transit? I’m worried because the wording said refused visa. I’m an American born in China, but both my parents have their American passports as well since we all got naturalized. The Chinese embassy is making it difficult for me to prove my parent’s citizenship status at the time of my birth as they no longer have their green cards. Since I can’t provide it, the application is left hanging so I have no choice but to cancel it. Please help!

It is important to check whether your visa is really "withdrawn" or "refused". It looks as it is withdrawn since you have terminated (cancelled) the process of issuing. You can do it by using your "Application ID / Reference Number" just to be certain about this detail. I am more than certain that it is withdrawn and that your passport has not been stamped with some remarks or similar.

If your visa is withdrawn you have every technical right to travel to / via mainland China by using 240 hour visa free transit scheme. It is important to create an itinerary where mainland China will be located between two different countries or eligible territories (eligible territories are Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau). It is important to understand that only the immediate points before and after mainland China matter and they have to be in two different countries or eligible territories.

Also, you have to be aware that in some cases you might be asked several questions by immigration authorities regarding your origin and your Chinese citizenship upon your arrival in mainland China. This is nothing to worry about, but this is definitely a possibility. There is nothing to hide since your case is perfectly transparent and you should just repeat it to them. Now, the first thing is to check the exact status and exact wording of your visa that has never materialized. I hope this helps.
