About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Does stopover count as a destination?

If I make the trip UK-HKG (short stopover)-PVG-UK, do I have to get out of the HKG airport to qualify for the 144hours twov in Shanghai?

No it's ok when the wheels touch Hong Kong soil.
