About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Chengdu stopover

Hi
I am planning on travelling to Thailand with my family in April. I want to stop over in Chengdu for just under 48 hours on the way. I thought that I would be able to travel free from the description on this website but I have spoken to Air China (who I plan to fly with), who say this is only for Beijing and Shanghai. Can you confirm the correct position please? I've tried to speak to someone at the Chinese embassy but can't get through.
Thanks
Peter

It's always a waste of time contacting airline call centres about this kind of issue. Only the staff at the airport on the day of your flight can decide whether your documents are in order or not. It's also almost always pointless contacting the embassy or consulate unless you want to get a visa. Chengdu definitely allows 72 hours twov. If you want reassurance you can post your itinerary here (including all stops).
