About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Refused boarding a flight to Shanghai

Today I was refused to board a flight from Japan to Shanghai. At the airport they told me that my passport was only 2 months valid instead of 3. In Shanghai I would have a transit (6hrs) to Amsterdam. I know that if you go to another country your passport needs to be valid but in this case it was just a Transit.

Do you have any idea whats right in this case? As I can't find the relevant information.

My nationality is dutch.

different countries have different passport expiration requirements. Some as many as 6. China requires 3 months for transit. If you can look at Timatic the information will be at the top of the results. If you Google Timatic you can then input travel details and it will give you the information

The 3 month requirement is also listed on the. 24/72/144 hour transit without Visa pages. Same requirement whether you leave the airport or not
