About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Speed Train from Hong Kong > Beijing > USA

Hi! We are traveling by speed train from Hong Kong to Beijing. We will only be traveling around Beijing, not to other parts of China during our stay. We will be staying 2.5 days (under 72 hours) and then flying directly to LAX (Los Angeles). What would we need to do for our visa? I thought the 72-hour would suffice, but now I'm seeing it's "air only". I find it a little crazy to have to pay $100 USD for entry permit for only 2 days...

If you will arrive at Beijing West Railway Station from HK, you can get the 144h twov then. No need to apply for a visa for that. Don't worry.

Oh really? I haven’t read anywhere about that visa for non-air trips. So it’s called the 144h twov and do we ask for it on the train or once we arrive at the station in Beijing? Thank you!

For the fast train you need visa. The slow train which makes no stops, I'm not sure about.
