About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flight Sydney to Guangzhou / 2 hour layover / Flight Guangzhou to Shanghai / Ship Shanghai to H.K.

Flight arrives Guangzhou 3 PM on Feb 1st. Then a 2 hour stopover in Guangzhou before a flight to Shanghai arriving 7 PM for a two day stay at Holiday Inn. Feb 3rd board approx 2 PM to depart at 5 PM by cruise ship from Shanghai to Hong Kong then other Asian ports.
Can anyone tell me if the 72 hour or 144 hour exemption applies?
Thanks!

No the 144h twov doesn't work as you have 2 stops in China.
2 stops mean your transit time is limited to 24h.
