USA - SHANGHAI - MALYSIA

I will be travelling to Malaysia with a layover in Shanghai. On my return trip home from Malaysia, I will be transitting in Shanghai again. Will I be eligible for the 72 hour visa on my trip home?

Yes. I think you can apply for the 72-hour visa free transit when you flights stop at Shanghai airport for your departure and return trips.
