About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

I have 2 layovers in Shanghai

Hello I am an American citizen headed with 2 layovers on a round trip ticket to Thailand. I leave the US 11/14/18 and I have one 12 hour layover in Shanghai before I arrive in Phuket. I have my 2nd layover on my birthday 11/27/18 for 15 hours. I would really love to see the city and not spend 15 hours in an airport on my birthday. Will I be able to leave the airport and get a free transit both ways?

I have the same trip, but on December, and have the same question. I was wondering, what places you could visit in Shanghai in 12 hrs layover?

You can get the free transit in Shanghai in both ways. If you have hotel reservations, maybe you are allowed to leave the airport.
