About:144-hour Visa-free Transit in Beijing, Tianjin & Hebei

Will we qualify for the 72 hour or 144 hour visa if we are flying from Tokyo to Beijing to LA?

Tokyo-Beijing-USA non-stop is clearly compliant for 144 hours transit without visa if your passport is from one of the 53 listed countries. Note that Tokyo-Beijing-Japan-USA would not qualify.
