About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is Transit visa needed for 15hr layover?

Dear sir,
I’m holding a Malaysian passport and i’m traveling to Japan via China Southern Airline, will transit in PVG for 15hrs.
Do I need to apply transit G for layover? And if not am I allowed to leave the airport to the nearest hotel?

If you have to leave the airport to the nearest hotel, you are advised to apply for a visa for the layover in Shanghai beforehand.
