About:Visa on Arrival

I am going to Shenzhen for 1 day trip from Hong Kong.

I was in China once, but that was 15 years ago. Will be travelling with partner with Australian passport?

Can I apply VOA? or should I apply China visa?

Yes, you can apply VOA and remember not to leave Shenzhen in these 5 days.
