applying for a chinese visa as a south african in nairobi

I need to travel to China on 19 October for a work meeting & intend on visiting Xian & Chendgu after.
However, I will be travelling to Zimbabwe between 09-12 October & Kenya between 14-19 October , therefore I won't be able to apply for a visa.
As a South African, can I apply for a visa in Nairobi, Kenya or upon arrival in Beijing, China?

Please help
