Is the 144 hour visit to Beijing still in effect?  Planning on Texas-HKG-PEK- Texas trip.  Confirmed tickets. Thank you

Yes. There is 144-hour visa free policy in Beijing now and you can apply for the visa exemption when you arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport.
