About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Departing flight has a China layover

When I leave Shanghai after my transit visa, I have a direct flight to Nepal. However it has a layover in another Chinese city, because there are no nonstop flights. I won’t be leaving the airport though. Will this be ok?

That will render you ineligible for 72 or 144-hour transit and you accordingly need a tourist visa.
