About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit, I have a flight which has a 23 hour stopover in Shanghai.

Do I need a visa to leave the airport? If not , Do i have to announce at check in that I want to go out the airport before landing ?

There is a desk on the way to immigration that says "24/144 hour transit without visa or something similar. You show your ongoing flight confirmation and they stamp your passport then you go to immigration/passport control. Skip the sign that only mentions 24 hours as that is the one that stays inside the airport. Once you go there you cant leave.
