About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Flying from London to Shanghai, with 1 hour stopover in hochi mmin, one day in Shanghai, back vietna

I am basically spending slightly more then 24 hours in Shanghai and then flying back to ho chi min. Can I apply for the 72 hours twov?

If you are flying Vietnam-Shanghai-Vietnam then you need a visa. It's a visit to China, not a transit.
