Flying from USA - 72 hour Visa-Free Transit

Hello,

We are traveling from the US on September 8 and will be arriving in Shanghai September 9th. Our connecting flight to Japan does not leave until September 11, can we utilize this 72 hour Free transit policy? And if so, we would just need to notify our airline upon check-in and let immigration in China know about our layover?

Thanks.

Shanghai now allows 144 hours transit without visa. As long as your route and passport qualify, you inform your airline at check-in, and they will inform Chinese immigration. Be sure to take printed copies of your onward e-ticket with you to show at check-in/boarding and on arrival.
