144 transit free visa

i am flying from the US - change planes in Hong Kong (2 hours layover) and then to Shanghai. Stay for 4 days and then taking cruise from the Shanghai port to Japan for 9 days. Back to Shanghai cruise port and leave that night from Shanghai to Vietnam. Can i use the 144 transit free visa even laying over in Hong Kong?
