About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Hi, Los Angeles - Shanghai - Bangkok then after 3 weeks Bangkok - Shanghai - Los Angeles

I'm US citizen. I'm planning to fly Los Angeles - Shanghai - Bangkok then after 3 weeks Bangkok - Shanghai - Los Angeles. Am I qualified for 72 hour TWOV for both ways in Shanghai?

Thanks for your help.

Yes. 144 hours each way, in fact. Your flights must not have any other stops in China, of course.

Thank you Rob. My Los Angeles - Shanghai flight has a layover in Hong Kong for 2 hours. Would Hong Kong stop be considered a stop in China?

Flights from Hong Kong are treated as international arrivals for immigration purposes. As long as your flight to Bangkok does not also stop in Hong Kong, you’re good to go.
