About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

do you need to stopover in Third country

I have a traveller wishing to do the following itinerary...
London-Beijing (stopover 9hrs)-Hong Kong (transit)-London
Please could you confirm if the traveller would actually need to stopover in Hong Kong (third country) or if it is just a matter of departing China to a different country from which you entered?
Thank you

London-Beijing (stopover 9hrs)-Hong Kong (transit)-London will be fine for the free transit policy. He needs to stopover in Hong Kong (third country) because London-Beijing-London-Beijing is not a transit at all.
