Does Beijing 144 hour visa free policy apply?

Hi - my husband and I are landing in Shanghai on 31 January from the UK and depart from Shanghai on 3 February on a cruise ship touring for 14 nights ending in Singapore on 17 February. As we are only in Shanghai for a few nights I understand that there is a 144 visa-free transit available for landing in Shanghai, is this correct and if so what is the procedure for this?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yes, you can apply for it. Prepare the required documents, including a passport valid for at least three months from the date of entry, a valid visa to the third country or region if required, and a ticket to a third country or region. Inform the carrier when boarding, then fill in an Arrival /Departure Card and then apply for the 144-hour stay permit upon arrival.
