About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Layover from JFK

Hi, just wanted to make sure. I'm flying out of JFK to Tokyo with a 13hour layover in Shanghai (where I plan to explore a bit before connecting to the flight to Tokyo). Do I need a Visa?

Your trip qualifies for 24h twov in Shanghai. But leaving the airport is no longer possible if your layover is less than 24 hours regardless of nationality. In some cases, people were let in when they showed their hotel booking confirmations. You can have a try.
