can I apply visa in HK

I am a student already staying here in China and I have been accepted for a master's program is it possible to travel to HK and apply for the x1 and re-enter China so that I can proceed to apply for a study permit?

It's possible for you to do that. Or you can try to convert your current visa into a X1 type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. If it can be done, you don't need to go to HK for that.

thanks you for the reply ...unfortunately the PSB officer told me I have to exit China and re-apply from outside China so will try from HK.
