About:China Transit Visa

Philippine passport holder. Flying from the US to Manila with a less than 24 hour layover in Pu dong

Need to check in to a hotel. Do I need a visa?

In Shanghai, leaving the airport is no longer possible if your layover is less than 24 hours regardless of nationality. But some reported that bringing a hotel reservation will help. You can have a try.
