Then I'm going to Beijing where I hope to be eligible for the 144 hour free transit option. Then departing Beijing 72ish hours later for Los Angeles. Am I eligible?

That is fine. Cambodia > Beijing > USA is allowed under the 144 hour TWOV. where you are before Cambodia does not matter.
