About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Japan - Shanghai - Hong Kong - Beijing

I am an American traveling to Japan then to China. If I travel from Japan to Shanghai for 2 days then to Hong Kong for 2 days and then to Beijing for 2 days would I be eligible for the 144 hour transit?

It depends on where you’re going after Beijing. You don’t need a visa for your first entry to China.

Japan > Shanghai > Hong Kong is allowed under the 144 hour transit.
Hong Kong > Beijing > USA is allowed as a second 144 hour transit.
