About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

South Korea to Guatemala City, Guatemala

I need to buy my fiance a ticket from South Korea to Guatemala but most flights transit through China. The longest layover I've seen is 18hrs, does she need a transit visa.

That depends on in which Chinese city he will transit during the trip.

IF she wants to leave the airport (she SHOULD see China), then have her transit thru any one of the many 72 hour or 144 hour Chinese cities and then NO entry permit is required. She should extend her trip for 3 or 6 days and use this policy because entry permits are darn expensive in China and her route DOES qualify for this NO VISA NEEDED policy. Check flights using the "Momondo" website for absolute lowest air fares.

Richard, there is a nationality restriction for 72/144-hour TWOV so she will not be eligible if she does not hold a passport issued by one of the 53 countries and have to get a tourist L instead. In short, it depends on which city she's stopping in and what passport she holds.

She holds a Guatemalan passport but would only be in the country for no more than 24 hours. The reason why I'm concerned is because we had an issue of with her flights the last time she traveled through Canada so I was wondering if it's the same for China

If so, she cannot apply for the 72 or 144h TWOV. If her layover qualifying city of China is within 24 hours, she can enjoy 24h twov.
