Hi, you can apply for tourist L type, and you need to provide a filled-out application form affixed with passport-style photo, your passport and its photocopy, residence permit in Japan, round trip air tickets and hotel reservation.

I don't have a residence permit for Japan as I'm here under 90 days. Does that make a difference?

If so, you can try to apply from the CVASC in Japan. But the result cannot be guaranteed. Good luck.
